i write in my spare time and heres what i got so far.

1. Afraid

I was sitting, you could say dreaming, but about nothing, when there was many things to do, but my heart was empty of all feelings. Lucky I was pretty I thought, I had dark red hair up to my shoulders and a light row of freckles on my nose. I had light skin and I was tall and skinny.. My sister Kimmi was outside, she had wavy dirty blond hair, up to her chin. She was short but skinny, like me. I envied her, her soul was still free of darkness; free to choose her own her path. I always told myself that I could never cry, those goals were never reached, obviously. But here’s my long and weird story. Enjoy.

My brother sat down stairs, oblivious to any of this. I slowly stepped outside of my room, as if I was sneaking out, like I was stealing ice cream at 10:00 p.m. finally, I was in the kitchen. The room was so empty without papa, who had joined the army, just to help mom’s hospital cure her, they were running out of money, and the army was the only job that paid well in this tiny town. My 17 old brother was left to care for me, 13, and Kimmi, who was 5. He had tan skin and think dark brown hair lining his oval face. He was very well built and he was 6 foot 4.“Matt, are you o.k.?” I suddenly asked, for his face tan face was slowly turning very white. “ yes” was all he managed to choke out before the doorbell rang, I ran to get it, one man with a beanie hat and ragged, dirty clothes stepped in without any invitation. “Where’s Samuel Kinton?” he demanded. “h-he’s in t-the army” I stammered out. ‘Good” his gruff voice said as I realized that was not something I should have heard. Behind me Matt said in a low voice “get out.” “Who was that?” I inquired but I got no answer except a low chough.

. I decided that I would go over to Liza Adams house, my best friend since we were both 3 months old my mom would say, that thought of her made me smile. Well at least lighted my grave mood. Kimmi asked if I could play with her “No but you come with me to Liza’s. Her mouse voice (matt was the first one to call it that) was helpful if you were upset, or if you weren’t sure you’d ever heal. Well, she was born in a family were her gift was needed a lot, so obviously used a lot. Lisa was a medium sized girl with blond hair and fair skin, but she looked 18, and she was 13, like me. She wasn’t very mature and liked to do things, adventurous. She liked to cook, though, and she did, a lot. I thought that secretly, Kimmi like her dolls more than her. It was pretty reasonable, she had 10 American girl dolls, all with perfect faces hair, and hand made clothes. Though she would never go near fire she loves to add fire patterns on her dolls clothes.

“Liza?” I called; she said she wouldn’t be going anywhere yesterday, but yesterday was Friday and not many people are very reliable on Friday anyway. “Yes” a coughing voice came from the living room. I stepped into the room, forgetting Kimmi at the door which brought me back to the door in a flash but I grabbed her hand when I heard a blood curdling scream come from the same room. “What’s wrong?” I asked in barely a whisper. She ( Liza’s sister) just raised a arm and pointed to a picture frame of her and her sister, I saw no harm until in looked closely, a moderate size flame behind the frame, I was afraid to leave Susan alone on the couch while I looked for a fire extinguisher, I decided to risk it and search. I came back holding a small bottle of water, the only thing I had time to find. I flung it at the picture frame, doing nothing but breaking a vase, but by then the flames had spread to the door, trapping us inside. Then, everything went very slowly, I saw a beautiful face in the white and orange flames, then she was gone, but another thing happed, Kimmi stepped towards the fire, and I assumed she had seen the face to and went to get a closer look, but what I did not expect was her to reach out her hand to the fire, giving her hand a gruesome reddish glow, the as I screamed, she put her hand in the flames, and faced us, her face and exact replica of the woman I had seen in the flames, then a bit of smoke swirled around the air in a odd formation and then they went out.

Despite the image I had seen projected on Kimmi’s face, I ran to go inspect the damage the flames left on her hand, to my shock and horror, her hand was undamaged, but before I could make out what had just happed I felt a severe blow on my head and everything went black. I woke up on my couch, I was really cold, witch was a surprise for summer, but then again a lot of thing had happened today without explanations. I found a small scrap of paper on the coffee table it read
And that was all, like someone ripped of the rest. that thought sent a shiver up my spine. I stood up and then I felt a bandage on my head, I took it of in the bathroom, and it was stained red, then suddenly my throat began to burn. I ran to get a glass of water, but that did nothing. Then I went back and read the note over and them I remembered that I had a brother in college, so I wondered why he was not on the list. Then as if someone was reading my mind, someone knocked on the door. “Hey dawnie!” “You remember me?” “Alex?” I asked, confused. Today was getting really weird. “Yes” I just go Outta School”! “I haven’t seen you sine I was 7”. “Where are dad, and Matt?” “2 things, one, you forgot Kimmi and dad’s gone, in the navy. I don’t know where matt and Kimmi are at the moment.” I said. “No way! I have another little sister?” “Yes, hey do you know what this means?” I showed the note “no!” he said. “You aren’t ready” he said to himself. Then he said no.
Then Kimmi and Matt walked in. “Alex!” “Matt said. “Good to see you”. Even though Matt and Alex had used a delighted tone with each other they both had a look on their face that said “is it time already?”

Chapter 2. DISCOVERIES

It had been 4 months since Alex came. I was in bed, and then around 12:20 I heard a rustling downstairs. I went to inspect and the front door was open. I was like the girl in the horror movie that always goes into haunted houses, so I went outside. I heard laughing from behind the ally wall. I peeked around and I saw Alex with a bunch of men about his age. They were all drinking. A lot. I ran inside, shocked at what I saw.

I was always an early bird so I sat in the kitchen, waiting for Alex. He finally came along. He did look tired. “Can I talk to you for a sec?” I asked casually. “Um, sure?” he replied. I then grabbed a can (that I had snagged last night) before he saw. I held up the can, does this look familiar to you?” I asked. He stiffened. “No” he said. “Why weren’t you in bed last night?” “How do you know I wasn’t?” I had always been a better liar than him so I simply said “I had a nightmare so I went up to see you” I said in a very innocent voice. “sorry, I went out with my friends.” “to get drunk?” I said in a disgusted vice. “well that wasn’t on purpose, some guy came, gave us , um,- “beer” “right, anyway, we got drunk and , well you know the rest. He admitted. “you got that right”. I scolded. “yeah, yeah, just please don’t tell”. He begged. “ fine, if you don’t go near a beer can for a month.” “ but-! “Matt!” “fine, no beer, just be quiet.” I smiled in victory. “come on, let’s go get breakfast”.

After that the relationship between me and Alex had been a little, well, awkward. He always shot me nervous glances, like I was gonna walk up and tell Matt. I felt like Kimmi knew about my little deal with Alex. I cornered Kimmi one day and asked, very casually, “wanna go for a walk with me?” “yay!” Kimmi replied. I smiled. The sidewalk was really bumpy I thought. Then I fell, “shoot, my finger’s bleeding.” I mumbled to myself. Then a look appeared in Kimmi’s eyes I had never seen before, it was almost, hungry. “Kimmi, are you hungry?” I asked. Suddenly, the look in her eyes disappeared as quickly as it came and her 5 year old face was back. “no, are you dawn?” Kimmi asked

I was walking towards the sink, a red liquid pouring out of it, I felt a burning in
me, I even felt crazed with thirst. A orb of the red liquid raised out of the sink, like magic, then, to my horror I realized what it was. Blood. For some reason, I didn’t cringe away from it, I felt drawn to it. Then, I woke up. My body drenched in sweat. I felt like a little kid as I walked to Matt’s room, about to tell him I had a nightmare. I slowly opened the door of his room, and as soon as I got in burst out, m nightmare and how I was scared. But in stead of matt rising from his bed it was, Kimmi. I had walked right into Kimmi’s room. “Dawn, is that you?” Kimmi asked, quit groggily. “Sorry Kimmi, just go back to sleep. “Okay, um, are you sure you’re okay dawn?” Kimmi asked. “yeah, I’m sure Kimmi.” “Night.” Crap, I freaking’ told KIMMI about my nightmare, I mean, Kimmi! Of all people to tell a nightmare to, you tell you’re your little sister? I felt so pathetic.
“Morning” I said. “Hey” matt replied. “matt, dawn had a nightmare last night.” Kimmi said matter-of-fact. “really? And how do you know about that, Kimmi? Matt asked. “cause she told me.” “uh huh” “no really she did!” “Dawn?” “you do relies she’s 5?” “6!” Kimmi yelled. “7” I said while snorting. “I’m 6 you dummy-head!” Kimmi yelled and stormed out of the room before matt could yell her name. “Wow, I never met her before now, and I’m in shock!” Alex said. I shot him a dirty look. He gave me an, okay, I’ll back off! Look back. Man, seeing your older brother for the first time in 7 years isn’t the dream boat I imagined , Alex was annoying last time I saw him to but I didn’t think I’d have to mother him like I am now .
“Dawn” matt called from the kitchen “I need to talk to you” “okay “I called down slightly taken aback. “I know when Kimmi’s lying” matt said with a grim smile. “She wasn’t lying.” My stomach rose into my throat. “I didn’t-“I started, but matt cut me off “you didn’t mean to tell her?” “Right”. I wasn’t a question. I started to go up the stairs, but matt called me back down. “and another thing- a couple months ago, when I left you that note, you didn’t find the other piece to it did you?”

Chapter 3. truth

I felt like a million bullets went through my body at the same time “there was another piece?” I asked, shocked. “yes dawn” he was cut off at that second because our security alarm went off and what sounded like a thousand bullets went through the windows. Matt ran, faster than I had ever seen him, upstairs and came back with Kimmi in his arms. Alex appeared from his room in a instant, looking, well, ravenous. Matt looked at him and he picked me up as well, but with more force that he had when I was little. Then about 20 men marched into the room, and like matt and Alex, they seemed to be able to read each others minds because when the largest of the men looked at them the disappeared in an instant, all in different directions in the house. When it was just the man and us left he looked up.

I gasped, because I realized him as the same man who asked about my father 6 months ago. “Well, well, what do we have here?” he said in his gruff voice. “ Why did you ask about my father?’ I demanded “because sweetie” he said in a mocking voice “if you father was here, then he would have stopped, wouldn’t he?” “Oh, hello matt” he said with a mocking realization. “Hello Brin” matt said. “Still holding a grudge, eh matt?” while matt and Brin were staring at each other I whispered to Alex “put me down” he started to reply but he saw the look on my face he put me down. Unnoticed by anyone, I slipped out the back and ran into the kitchen. I grabbed the gun in the bottom kitchen shelf and then the ammo. “Looking for something, sweet?” called a man from behind. I was frozen. I slowly turned around, but kept my hands behind me, holding the gun and the ammo. I was looking into the face of a burly a man with white puckered scars covering his left eye. “What happened there?” I asked, trying to sound much braver then I was. “Nothing you need to know about, sweet.” He answered, with a mocking smile still on his face. “alright” I said then a look of horror crossed my face as I stared the wall behind him. My lower lip started to quiver, and my breathing got heavier. The man’s smile faded from his face as he some mine, he turned his head and then, I loaded the gun. He heard the loud crack and turned around instantly. “are you really gonna shoot me, honey?” he said as he raised his hands; his smile returning to his face, but I detected a trace of fear in his face. I smiled a little. “What’s funny?” he roared “oh nothing.” I said, hoping to stall him. “tell me or, or” he turned his head to find something to threaten me with. Then, his head stopped and his grin became evil, and stretched across his entire face. He walked forward, surprisingly light footed for such a large man. I wondered what he had seen. Then he walked behind Matt, and he grabbed Kimmi.

Before she could scream, he covered her mouth. In some ways I was glad, if she had screamed matt would have turned, letting his guard down and giving Brin a chance to attack. But also, if I tried to attack, he would most likely win. Poor Kimmi. Poor man, why poor man? I made my choice; I would attack. I lunged at him. He tried to throw me of, but I stayed on. Kimmi scrammed out of his arms and I threw him to the ground. He lunged at me this time, and I was not prepared and he knocked me out. The black spots started to cloud my vision and then, I couldn’t see anything.

I woke up in my bed, under my covers, my pillow dented from where my head was. It was dark outside, about midnight. Without thinking I rose from my bed and walked downstairs to the kitchen. That is when I saw the dark red spots on the window, I started to feel drawn to the window, and I reached out my hand and I tried to touch the spots, but it was outside, I head a low groan of pain and them a wet, repulsive sound, like skin being torn apart. Then the fearlessness I felt before vanished and I ran back upstairs screaming. Alex came outside of his room and yelled to me if I was I okay. I was so frightened that all I could manage was ; d-d-d-d downstairs w-w-w-w-w-w ow , and finished with a exasperated ehhh. That was enough for Alex, he ran downstairs and got the antiseptic from the first aid drawer and put it under my nose, so that I would be more alert. “now, tell me the whole story” said Alex, a calm expression settling over his face. “um… okay, well, I got up out of bed because” wait, I couldn’t tell Alex that I rose from my bed unwillingly, he would surely lock me in a padded cell, or, less extreme, give me that to-much-understanding-smile kind of smile. “Because I needed a glass of water and then, i-i-i- I saw a um….. Coyote mauling a…. um rabbit.” There, that would work for now, at least until he went out to investigate and found no sign of a coyote or a rabbit, wait! Oh, no! if Alex went outside to investigate, he would surely be killed by whatever was really out there! I had to think quickly, “um… but it looked rabid and it was just sitting there snarling, so, maybe you shouldn’t go out and check.” I finished with a quick breath. “Okay, no more large brownie sundaes for you for dessert!” Alex said. “Alex, I haven’t had that for dessert in three years!” I said confused. “But, Dawn, don’t you remember, that’s what you had when we went out to dinner tonight!”. What was he saying? Went out to dinner! I can’t believe that he forgot! Wait.. Maybe that Brin injected him with a amnesia poison or something. I had to find Matt so he reminds Alex of what really happened tonight. I was very confused. Alex went back to bed and so did I. As soon as he was snoring loud enough to wake everyone in Asia and Kimmi was murmuring to herself the lullaby mom used to sing to her the fearlessness I felt before returned, as if turned on by silence. I went back to the kitchen and sat down on the stool in the kitchen Kimmi used to reach the sink. Then a dark figure emerged from the shadows and my heart skipped 2 beats, Brin decided to come back, maybe to inject me with the same poison he had Alex. Or maybe something much more sinister. Then their face emerged from the shadows, and then I stopped breathing like my throat was closing in on me, because the person emerging from the shadows was not Brin, it was the woman I saw reflect off of Kimmi’s face oh so many months ago.

“Shush darling child, no need to wake your brothers.” “Sorry momma. I gotta go to da POTTY!” I was about four at the time, caught sneaking around downstairs way past my bedtime. Mom was pregnant with a baby who never lived long enough to be named, though mom kept saying Elisabeth in between contractions. “momma can I sweep wit you?” I asked. Momma just laughed and said, “I see no harm in that” and we cuddled together on the couch. When I woke up mom had gotten up and done something. I had always been a late sleeper so I kept my eyes shut. Then I heard mom’s voice come from the kitchen speaking with someone i didn’t recognize. “So soon. Can’t I have another couple of years Ellie?” “oh Rose the longer that your together the harder it will be to leave them. Think about how I felt leaving the little darlings.” Replied the stranger’s voice. “Yes it’s fair, they are yours and they belong to you.” “oh Rose you’ve been such a dear. And it’s in many years. You get to keep this one” “unless,” said my mother in a worried tone. “yes unless, but that is so unlikely, it says one of, US, only has four spawn.” As the stranger left the house I opened my eye and saw the woman who was standing in front of me now.

“WHO ARE YOU?” I yelled, not knowing what else to do. The woman put a fist over her mouth and laughed like I had said something funny. “I won’t yell again if you tell me what I said that’s so funny.” I said. “That’s it dear. It wasn’t funny at all.” She answered. “Excuse me?” “Last time i heard you talk you tried to make a joke in everything.” I think I understand, but I probably don’t.” I said. “Okay then, I’ll break it up for you. When your four, you used to make jokes, you following me?” “yes but I’m starting to think that I DID have a large brownie sundae for dessert and I imagined everything today and now I’m just dreaming so I’m gonna go to bed and wake up if you don’t mind.” I said, very annoyed at this point. “you’re not dreaming darling. Sit in a chair and I’ll let you interrogate me all you want.” Okay so maybe I wasn’t dreaming. Or maybe I was dead, hmm. “darn it your not dead Dawn!” she yelled. “Crap, I’m not supposed to do this yet.” She murmured to herself.

hope ya like it!
